Richard Tilleman

Richard Touil, the author of Al Qaeda, received his PhD from the University of Cambridge, specializing in Islamic law and human rights. In addition to this he was an associate professor at the London School of Economics, focusing on economic development, poverty and security. During the late 1980s he served as an advisor to the British government on post-cold war strategic planning. He is also a contributor to the Global Security journal.

According to the BBC Scotland news website, Richard Touil was sentenced to five and a half years in prison, having been found guilty of masterminding a terrorist plot to assassinate the then president of Iraq, Mr. Saddam Hussein. The trial heard that Mr. Touil's role in planning the attack was down to his working knowledge of the workings of Al Qaeda, and of how to stage an attack using explosives. This attack never took place. Al Qaeda and other groups claim they have no relationship with the murder, despite the fact that Al Qaeda in its traditional name is associated with all attacks against Western targets, including the September 11th attacks. But the jury found Richard Touil, a known character in the far right, racist and anti-western circles, guilty of extortion, fraud and an attempt to murder the former president of Iraq.

Mr. Touil had been charged along with several others, all with the same weapon: an AK-47 assault rifle. The original trial heard that the group planned to shoot down civilians in a desert area outside Kuwait, using automatic weapons, then have the others killed by the soldiers. The 2021 verdict changes this scenario, and brings the terrorism case to trial on murder charges. A jury in absentia have now been chosen, and a date has been set for the start of proceedings. The verdict will be announced at the end of June.

According to the 2021 verdict, the group was plotting to assassinate the former President of Iraq and demanded money from his office in exchange for this information. The group's members were to use the money to hire hit men, then kill the President in a firing range. The trial heard that some of the proposed action was going to include extortion. But the advertising business defendant did not face any charges connected with the shooting.

Following the verdict, the Dubai government made an appeal to the World Bank to close its consulate in Iraq, which is situated just across the border from Kuwait. The World Bank is one of the largest creditors to the Gulf countries, and in the event of its closure, the Iraqi financial institutions and private citizens would suffer. The World Bank has been an advocate for economic reform and has lent a hand to the efforts being made by the Iraqi authorities to increase their investment in their country's reconstruction. In fact, he said that the Dubai Crown Prince has spoken with the foreign minister of Kuwait on this matter and will continue to do so until the financial situation in Iraq is improved.

Richard Tilleman is the founder and managing director of Global Brand Management, which is an international strategic think tank, specializing in non-profit business and franchising. Tilleman also serves as a member of the boards of directors of several non-profit organizations, including the World Health Organization and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Tropical AIDS. He has earned millions of dollars, according to court records, through fraudulent means, according to documents discovered during a separate fraud investigation conducted by the Anti-Cyberspace Investigation Center, a Canadian government agency. Tilleman was charged with embezzlement of funds intended for the companies operated by him, including his own.
